Welcome to the Wonderful World of Weimaraners!
The Weimaraner Club of Greater Louisville was established on April 28,1974 by a small group of dedicated owners because of their shared interest in one of dogdoms most beautiful, intelligent and versatile breeds.
The primary purpose of the club is to protect and advance the Weimaraner and to do all possible to bring the breeds natural qualities to perfection.
Membership is open to all who share the purposes set forth in the club's constitution and bylaws and to all who are dedicated to the welfare of the breed first and foremost.
The Weimaraner Club of Greater Louisville is proud to have hosted the 1991 Weimaraner Club of America National Specialty and Obedience Trial as well as four WCA Central Show Futurities. The club's Specialty Show, with Junior Showmanship Competition and Sweepstakes, held in March each year is one of the largest in the country drawing Weimaraners from coast to coast as well as Canada. The club also hosts American Kennel Club Pointing Breed Hunting Tests where the owner handler can test his or her Weimaraner's field instinct and training at dm levels on a pass or fail basis. Indeed, the scope of activities undertaken by the club is limited only to the interest and participation of the membership. All responsible areas of interest are welcome.
If you are interested in making a Weimaraner part of your family, you need to know a very true statement about the breed "The only thing you can't do with a Weimaraner is NOTHING." This is an intelligent people loving and energetic breed that thrives on being part of the family, training and exercise. It’s easy to fall in love with the unique beauty of the breed and their endearing personalities. It’s also easy enough to take care of the feeding, housing and health needs of a Weimaraner, but the time and energy devoted to early training and proper exercise will develop the kind of family companion you will enjoy living with for 12 years or longer. Baring an inherited bad temperament, you are RESPONSIBLE for raising a Weimaraner that will be a pleasure to live with and a credit to its breed.
Some of the things members can do to benefit the breed and club are:
Learn how to be a better owner and have more fun with your Weimaraner
Suggest programs of interest
Work on a committee in an area that interests you and your Weimaraner
Donate trophies for Weimaraners at local, regional and national events
Learn about being a responsible owner and breeder
Volunteer and support Weimaraner Rescue
