THE GRAY’S GAZETTE
Newsletter of The Weimaraner Club of Greater Louisville
Volume VII, Issue 5
June 2001
Hello,
The month of May was a busy month for me. Teresa Evans, Pam Hupp, Susan Smith, and I all went to the Nationals in St. Louis and also went to New Jersey for Isaac and Holly’s Futurity and Julep’s Maturity. The St. Louis trip was not bad, but New Jersey was a different story. The roads are terrible! We got lost twice going to the hotel. We spent more time in the car that week then we did walking. Then the judge we went for had a car accident on the way to the airport so they had a judge change. Isaac did come in 4th in his futurity and Holly came in 3rd. Julep came in 2nd in her maturity (She probably would have won if it wasn’t for someone emptying out their cooler and making a loud noise that spooked her). We are really proud of all of them and thank Teresa for doing such a good job showing them. I also learned the first day I was there that Greg had surgery and was in the hospital. It seems a metal box fell from the rafters in our pool house and cut his right Achilles tendon. The doctor states that it will take up to one year for him to totally heal. Right now he is making it on crutches!
Denise
I am proud to say that the following rescued Weims have been placed with wonderful families:
· Mitchell with Chris and Tiffani Kurtz in Bedford, Indiana.
· Docker with Amy Singleton in Nashville, TN.
· Molly with Megan Davidson in Louisville, KY.
The following are in need of adoptive homes:
Shady is a 5 year-old, neutered male that has come to us from a shelter in Shelbyville, KY. He was turned in by his owner. He is current on his shots, housebroken, crate-trained, but does not like cats. He has not been obedience trained. He is very sweet and likes to ride in the car.
Claire is a 6-month-old, spayed female that has come to us from a shelter in Lafayette, Indiana. She was left tied to someone’s tree in their front yard. Her coat is awful looking right now because she has lived outside all her short life. She is very sweet, but needs to learn some manners. She is currently doing very well with housebreaking and learning all the noises in the house, etc. She is current on her shots. She is good with other dogs and cats.
Vapor is a 10-month-old, spayed female who is good with other dogs, cats, and children. She is housebroken, crate trained, rides in the car well, and is friendly and lovable. She is up to date on her shots and is AKC registered. We received her from a family in Cincinnati, Ohio that had to relocate.
Tyler is a 1-1/2 year old, “blue” male. He is smaller than other males. He needs to learn some manners. He is neutered and up to date on shots. He is very sweet. We think that he has lived outside his whole life. He does very well in the house and the foster home is working on the housebreaking. He is good with other dogs and cats. He is being fostered in Cincinnati. Please call for the foster homes phone number.

On April 15, 2001 (Easter Sunday), Nani’s Cross at the Willows, Willow, SMOKED her TD track offered by the Dayton Dog Training Club at Sycamore State Park in Trotwood, Ohio. She is owned by Dan and Cindy Smaldone. The track was 465 yards long with 5 turns in deep cover. Although this is not a timed event, it was all over in 6 minutes, even after flushing a bird. Willow was offered a drink, but it was Cindy who needed water after the run (literally) and the judges had to jog to keep up. Cindy and Dan are very proud of Willow and the manner in which she attained her first title.

I wanted to express
my deepest sympathy to Gail Boggs and her family in Ashland, Kentucky. She
adopted Heidi (5 years old) last year, sight unseen, when no one else would
adopt her. Heidi suddenly died in May after coming back from a run with her
four-legged sister, Haley. The Boggs family is in our thoughts and prayers.
